STOP, LOOK, LISTEN! by Kathy Sherretts
Planning to attend a protest, a rally, or a town hall while you're in the US this summer? You're not the only one—and officials in some areas are getting nervous. Here is an interactive map from the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law, which tracks initiatives at the state and federal levels to restrict the right to protest. If you really want to be prepared, you can download this booklet from the National Lawyers Guild: Know Your Rights Guide for Law Enforcement Encounters. This 16-page primer is a practical resource for people meeting local law enforcement, FBI, or the Department of Homeland Security. It also includes information for non-citizens and minors.
To find out what's going on in your area, you can check resources such as the Resistance Calendar or Resistance Near Me. Contact local organizations like the YWCA or connect with action groups in your area via Twitter or Facebook. Find a way to get involved and get your family and friends motivated to vote this fall!
