Principled Partisan 
The tributes from politicians and journalists on the death of John McCain show a real appreciation for his ideas of patriotism and service. I hope that our lawmakers will be inspired by his example and step up in the coming months.
Last October Senator John McCain was awarded the National Constitution Center’s Liberty Medal; here is his acceptance speech.
I swear I’m trying to keep this list to 3 items, but seriously! Maybe in one year things will be more tranquil, and my weekly list will consist of baseball scores and casserole recipes.

Prisoners in at least 17 states are staging the largest and most ambitious prison strike in U.S. history in protest of labor exploitation and poor living conditions. The strike will run from August 20, (anniversary of the death of the Black Panther leader George Jackson at San Quentin) until September 9, the anniversary of the Attica Prison riots.
